Monks aren't normal casters, monks get targeted by interupters and shutdown often so they need some tricks to manage better.
(note most i write in this catagory is how i like to play monk, there's no bestway to do this, it's just some advice for other players)

Energy 1: (gear)
Basicly the same as with other casters, just make shure you'r able to change high and low energysets quickly so e-denial has less effect.

Energy 2: (play-style)
Most monks in PvE heal a team back to full health since they don't need to worry to much about energy (u can have a break after each mob) in PvP i tend to not heal my party back to full health unless the opposit team has a really good spike.
When walking around always have your shield equiped (vs blunt if facing hammer+sword/axe war).

Priority heals:
when being targetted don't try to heal yourself to much, for several reasons
  • you'll be getting several knockdowns in a row so u won't be able to heal to much.

  • mesmers can easily get hexes like diversion on you so you'd loose a healingskill.

always make shure to heal the other monk before yourself. the most used order to heal (while not affected by deathpenalty, and when there isn't being spiked and the flagrunner being out of range) is
    1. other monk

    2. yourself

    3. mesmer

    4. elementalist

    5. other casters

    6. ranger

    7. paragon

    8. warrior

Tactics: (position)
Always be in range of the supportline, buffs come in handy.
Kite when there's melee dmg building on you.
Stand in wards if they'r up.
Don't move to much if there's no need to, having to stop before casting will slow your heals down.

Movement:
Same as with the casters
Monks push up first, then the frontline, then the supportline.
Supportline moves last inorder to get buffs up on the entire team (if possible) before pushing in.

If you have any remarks or questions u can always contact me ingame bounce
