First off your gonna need a pvp char and have most/a lot of skills and items unlocked. Our Pvp officer will pick a team build and then we just fill in the spots. Preferably play as a profession that you are used to and know when to use skills and what they do. Your team leader will tell you what the plan is before the battle and you just follow instructions and listen to the leader and try not to act too noob. Chances are you will have to use more that one weapon set for the battles too. You will get to learn when and how to use them effectivly in battle.

Honestly, just listen to the leader and use common sence and you will be fine. As you get more practice with the team you will get better and soon we will be leet! Very Happy Hope that helps you Din.

Haha owned

But he is right in what he said, PvP needs a lot more attention from the players than in PvE. the smallest mistake can cause a fail-out.

But over time, you get better, we all started somewhere of course.

Lol, all of my post seem to be followed by "mathias you are noob". Are you ppl trying to tell me something!?

Hahaha im R3 in HA so i have had a bit of experience in the pvp world. I know the importance of not having ppl who see an enemy and just run straight into them or have silly ppl who just stand in aoe and expect monks to keep them alive. I just have one thing to say:

If you have Spiteful Spirit on you don't attack!!!

That is all. Thanks for listening! Very Happy

Worse than any of those would be casting a crucial spell while you have Diversion on you, especially if it's the skill that you spike with or even worse if you're a healer >.>

That is less noobish though, some mesmers are really good at reading when you will use certain skills and diversion them pretty well (I have yet to master this but I've seen people do it rather well)

k guys since mathias finds himself to be a pro-pvp gamer being R3 i'll share the litle wisdom i have being r7 (near 8though =p).
It's very important to have most skills unlocked.
- ONLY USE SUPERIOR RUNES IF ASKED, major/minor rune ftw (doesn't count for vigor).
- ALWAYS HAVE MULTIPLE WEAPONSETS:
casters need: - +30hp on sword/axe + 20%ench on other
- shield with -5/20, blunt, slash, pierce, phys, elem, fire, ice, burn, earth
- +30/+30 staff
- -10 energy SET (for e-denial)
- +30/-2 e- reg set for when energy is low and u need an escape
melees need: - sundering, vamp, (furious e.g. hammer war/para), zealous
- same shields as above
- wand or spear to build up adrenaline from a distance

and further...

Before saying you'r good at one or the other proffesion practise in RA and TA.
I don't want to insult anyone but pvE isn't pvP, energy management is far more important for casters. Good ways of finding out if someone is good at something is to scrim battle against eachother.

e.g. if you know someone who's good at monking and someone else claimes to be good at being a mesmer let the monk and the mes scrim eachother, give the mes an amount of time in wich he/she has to get the monk down to x energy and if he/she makes it he's good.

TACTICS
when playing pvP you have to know what you'r doing, you'll need a speech program and preferably a mic.
one of the hardest teambuilds to play is split, you need to comunicate in two teams without seeing what the other team is up to, the easiest is spike (3, 2, 1, spike isn't hard).
the best teambuild starts with knowing your place in tactics calling.

usually there's a main caller (mostly melee) and a backup caller (a backline player).
inorder to not have ppl shouting WE NEED THE FLAG, WE NEED HELP HERE, I'M DEAD, I NEED HEALING, you shut up unless you'r going to do something worth saying such as running the flag up in gvg/capping a relic in HA.

inorder to find out what kind of teambuild we could play i sugest by starting to organise some scrim battles, most important players atm are (inorder of importance):

- warrior (tactics caller)=> most exp player (frenzy/healsig ftw Evil or Very Mad)
- mesmer (shut down) => one of the most skilled players needed
- monks (...) => calm people who'r exp with weapon changing
- ranger => ganker/presure important to know all maps
- flagrunner => someone who doesn't get angry quick (being targeted sucks)

I'll do some scrims...heh the top three are my most played PvP characters, although usually less of the warrior and more of the monk (in HA that's the char I play most).

Lol, i didn't say i was pro, i said i had a BIT if pvp experience. i am in no way a pro Very Happy Meledelion has covered all the main points but he left out that eles are also important players (or i find them rather important). They can be great pressure/snare/runners and playing as them is fun.

One thing that i find really helpful if ur doing Pvp is to use the observe function! Just watch some random GvG battles and HA battles to get an idea on the popular team builds ppl are running so that when u come up against a team u will be able to go in with some info on the build and how to counter it. Another one is to use RA and TA to test ur builds or and skill at the profession you are playing.(just like Meledelion said)

If you playing as a mesmer i suggest u watch ur target carfully and get an idea how their build works. once you know that u can predict when hes gonna use a certain skill. Also watch cast times and try not to just sit there and spam all ur interupt skills just to disable 1 enemy skill. Shutdown isn't that hard to play once u get used to it.

Monks, u need to watch your team. don't just spam healing skills otherwise ur gonna loose all ur energy and be no use. I suggest that u know how much each skill heals for so that ur not useing a 100hp healing spell when a 50hp healing spell would suffice. If you have hex removal find out what hexes are being cast. some necros will cast a dummy hex so that u waste ur hex removal on the skill leaving you open to be hit by their intended hex. and for the love of god stay calm Smile there are too many monks that get angry and if that happens then you won't play as well as u would if u stayed calm.

Some of the things i said in here will seem obvious to most of you but i say them because i have been in teams where ppl do these things (ie angry monks, skill spamming mesmers that couldn't hit a wall even if they were infront of it).

That is about all for now i think Very Happy And Meledelion you should consider applying for the Pvp officer spot if you have not already. you seem to be a pro pvper Cool

The key thing to remember in PvP, at least in my mind, is that everyone is important and that no single person can carry the team. In order to be good you have to function as a team...I've seen egos shatter groups faster than they were created Sad

Another key thing to keep in mind is patience. You probably wont do very good at first, and there is a lot of different things to adjust to. I remember in HA when they put the new game types in, such as relic capturing and altar capture that I had no idea what to do...but you learn best by experience.

The best thing to do is to try several things and see which one you enjoy playing, or which one you are good at (not necessarily the same Smile ) This of course takes time and many failures, but you shouldn't expect to win right off the bat. In fact, I usually expect to lose a few rounds before any wins, and many teams that I've played with in the past either give up too early or develop roles that they always play in the team so the failures eventually shrink. The latter is more of what happens once you play for a LONG time as a specific build or character type, but just like everything else it takes time.

I guess that my morale is that if you are interested in PvP, start trying things out and try to find some matches to play! And Mathias made a very good point, the observe function is your friend. You can follow a specific build around and see how other people use it if your having trouble trying it yourself, or you can see how teams operate and work together to make the builds work.

yes elementalists are quite important in pvp but if i personally get the choice for a pug player i'd rather have that pug to play elementalist or paragon (or dervish) for instance then a warrior with frenzy/healsig or a shutdown mesmer or a monk or the others i mensioned...

the point is, an elementalist isn't THAT hard to play, that's why i didn't put it up.

Exclamation (and i already stated that i'd post the hardest proffesions) Exclamation

oh and yes Observer mode comes in handy but don't copy the playing style from another player, if you try to do this you'll find every class hard to play.

for instance when i monk i prefer to let ppl get some dmg and heal them untill their healthbar is CLOSE TO FULL rather then full so i never overheal.
(overhealing is the thing mathias talked about with the 100heal when healing 50 would've been enough)
but i know several other monks who rather see everyone on full hp, it's all about you not about the bar nor the tactics.

same thing with flagrunning, if you c the skillbar and the tactics of the character you'd think everybody can do it but minor difrences in playing style can have a big influence...

Yes, monking is differs with players. I find that the monks with slower reflexes or those that aren't used to a build tend to over heal where as the more experienced and faster ppl don't mind a bit of damage left unhealed. It all depends on how fast u can heal a person if they become a target of attacks.

and some ele builds can be harder to play. it just with eles its easier to get used to a build than it is with other classes. the big thing with eles and all the other "spell casters" is energy. Energy management is harder than it is in pve. Some of the gvg matches can last for a long LONG time so you will be constantly in aggro unlike pve where u get one group, defeat it, have a break while u run to the next group. So you have to walk a fine line between doing too much and too little. There are other things to consider too like keeping ur energy hidden, emergency energy sets, etc but that is for the more for the advanced pvp tactics. i guess we will make a topic about it when we start to pvp.

Meledelion brought up a good point. Don't try to mimic other players playing style. Chances are it won't work for you. As you play more you will develope your own style (which will be greatly affected by who is in your team). Most good teams have played with each other for a while and as such know their team mates well and can tell what they are going to do. I guess you can say you are trying to synchronise with your team.

One last point: Always listen to your leader and follow whatever he tells you to do. Don't sit there and argue with them or ignore them and run off and do ur own thing. Pvp is all about team work! king

I see, that Meledelion has the leading hand in pvP things...

If you have a open spot in the GvG team, I'd love to join!
If u need a Backliner/midliner, you can count on me! (for GvG). I've great expierence in B-surge, Rc monk and flagg (Rt/Ele or Rt/. If you want to make a split team, I've expierence in burning arrow ranger (but it isn't very populair these days).

In HA like to play Thumper, Expell Rt, N/Rt.
The Ways is like to be in are: Sway, Tainted Heroway, Thumpway and Sandstorm spike (but the Dervish build got a bit nerved).

Other things you might want to know is:

-Glad 1
-Hero 4
-I could play every build, because I unlocked every skill >.<
-Got Ts/Vent and Mic (Not very good, so I don't prefer calling, but you can hear me).
-Played in top 400 guild as B-surge or Rc.

If you want to hear some other stuff, plz pm me! I'm always in for those try-outs!

meledion, when you say a paragon in the team
is the paragon running defensive anthem in between aegis casts sort of build?
or is it like a cruel spear/ high damage build?

It depends on the build. usually paras are defensive and support since warriors are much better choices if you want damage.

Btw when are we gonna start doing PvP stuff?

I wouldn't mind monking PvP a bit again, or learning warrior instead. I used to monk HA a bit but stopped when all the new stuff kept coming out. A lil while ago i did some TA monking with ZoS and they said i did well with e-management and weapon sets, but for HA and such i know the stuff is always different =)
